What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of group conversations that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith in an open, friendly environment. Everyone’s welcome. No matter your background or beliefs, you’re invited.

Alpha started in 1977 at Holy Trinity Brompton London. In 1990 Nicky Gumbel repositioned Alpha as a course for people outside of the church to explore the Christian faith through a series of talks and through conversation with others.

Alpha now runs all across the world. Millions of people have experienced Alpha in over 100 countries and over 100 languages around the globe.

What happens at Alpha?

Alpha runs over 11 sessions on Wednesday evenings at St. Peter’s in the Main Hall. We begin by connecting over dinner (which is free!), hearing some live music and then we watch a couple of videos with discussion questions in between. Each week we look at a different topic centred around faith which is designed to create conversation - you can say anything at all or just listen if you’d prefer, there is no pressure! You will be hosted by the same group leader(s) throughout the 11 sessions. Everyone is welcome.

Try Alpha

We will be running Alpha on Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm-9pm, beginning Wednesday 14th May till Wednesday 23rd July. You are so welcome to join us whatever your background or beliefs. Please sign up below so we know how many people are coming for catering purposes, but if you’ve still got questions don’t hesitate to email office@stpetersharrow.org and we will do our best to get back to you. We can’t wait to see you there!

Volunteer at Alpha

In order to run Alpha we are looking to build a team of volunteers around hospitality, welcome, running groups and catering. It's an amazing opportunity to love people in a practical way and be a part of their journey to faith. So, if you're interested to know more please register your interest below and one of the team will be in touch soon.
